When changing or adding ingredients to your recipe, this screen will help you organize the quantities and information about the ingredient.

At the top of the screen we have quantity, unit quantity, partial or fractional quantity, the units of measure, and the name of the ingredient.  Quantity and unit quantity are similar but are actually different quantities used for different types of ingredients.  For example, if we have a salmon recipe and we need 4 (four) salmon fillets, this number goes into the first entry box.  This is the same as if the recipe called for 3 eggs, the three would go in the first entry box which is the quantity.

The second entry box is for the unit quantity, as in the example for the salmon recipe, the weight of the 4 salmon fillets would go into the second entry box.  So, if our recipe called for 4 salmon fillets that weighed 7 ounces, the 4 would go into the first box, and the 7 would go into the second box.  CDChef was designed with this in mind because during research and development we found recipe programs on the market that did not distinguish between the two and for the salmon recipe example when the shopping list printed out, it printed 28 ounces of salmon, not 4 - 7 ounce salmon fillets.  Could you imagine the trouble programs like that would be if we were cooking on the grill and the shopping list printed 42 ounces of steak, you would not know how many steaks, or what weight they needed to be.

Continuing across, the next entry box is the partial unit quantity, such as 1/2 cup, or 1/8 teaspoon.  And just after that, is the unit of measure, such as the cup, teaspoon, quart, and so on.

The last entry field at the top is the name of the ingredient.  CDChef uses this name to create the shopping list, so all of your milk is added correctly, and all of the sugar is added correctly.  Just below is a short description of the ingredient so you can write what type of ingredient you need.  For example, if we needed apples in our recipe, you can specify Delicious Red, or Green Apples, or what ever you would like to enter here.

If you would like to keep track of cost in you part of the country, simply enter the cost, and other information here.  When the recipe is edited, the cost of all ingredients are added up so you can tell how much the recipe is, or how many calories, fat grams, and carbs are in the recipe.

The check box next to the calories is the Auto Update Ingredient Features option.  If this check box has a check in it, by simply clicking in the box, when this ingredient is added to a recipe and you enter a quantity, the features (cost, calories, fat grams, and carbs) are automatically adjusted to match the new quantity for the recipe.  Say we buy apple juice for 1.79 for a half gallon, and the recipe calls for 1 cup of apple juice, the cost would automatically be adjusted in the recipe as .22, or 22 cents.  The calories, fat grams, and carbs are also automatically adjusted for you, now you can maintain any type of diet without doing all the strange math, let CDChef do it for you.

Under the ingredient cost, calories, fat grams, and carbs, we have a list box for the pictures and one for the suppliers.  If you have an odd ingredient, or a recipe that calls for a pre-made item such as icing, salsa, or any mixture, you can take a picture of it and just right click in the picture list box and add it.  If you have an ingredient that you purchase at a specialty market, you can enter their name and address in the suppliers list box by simply right clicking in the list box and choose add.  Now, you will always know where to purchase the rare ingredient you need for your special recipe.
